Schmaltz, Vaughan and Trupp Readying Read to Succeed Visits
February 12, 2016 - American Hockey League (AHL)
Chicago Wolves News Release
Chicago Wolves defensemen Jordan Schmaltz and Scooter Vaughan and forward Evan Trupp will fan out across the Chicago area on Feb. 24-25 on behalf of the organization's "Read to Succeed" program, presented by Butternut and J.U.L.I.E. Call 811.
The 22-year-old Schmaltz, who continues to take classes to complete his communications degree at the University of North Dakota while going through his first year as a professional hockey player, will speak to children on Wednesday, Feb. 24. He will visit the Tinley Park Public Library at 4 p.m. and the Orland Park Public Library at 7 p.m.
Vaughan, who graduated from the University of Michigan in 2011 and is a business entrepreneur away from the ice, will visit the Elk Grove Village Public Library at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25.
Trupp, a 2012 University of North Dakota graduate, will visit the Fox Lake District Library at 4 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 25, and the Antioch Public Library District at 6:30 p.m.
The Read to Succeed program teaches the importance of recreational reading and encourages children to use the many resources libraries offer. Wolves players discuss the benefits of reading outside the classroom and explain why it plays an important part in their lives as professional athletes. One child at each library will get the chance to dress in a complete Wolves uniform.
Participants can win prizes -- including Wolves ballcaps, sunglasses, and tickets to upcoming games at Allstate Arena -- for setting and achieving reading goals. More than 17,000 children participate in Read to Succeed activities during the winter months.
