North Charleston, SC - The South Carolina Stingrays and Head Coach/Director of Hockey Operations Cail MacLean announced today that the team has signed forward Matt Scherer. In keeping with club policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Scherer, 28, generated a career-high 15 goals and 13 assists for 28 points in 65 games last season and registered three points (1g, 2a) in five Kelly Cup playoff contests. On January 7, 2010, the Seattle, WA native became the seventh team captain in Stingrays history.

"Matt has the ability to raise our team's work rate through his example," said MacLean. "His consistent hard play is key, but it is leadership and selflessness that make him indispensable. He is another veteran player that we expect to play a critical role in establishing and maintaining our identity."

Since joining the Stingrays as a rookie for the 2007-08 season, Scherer recorded 79 points (40g, 39a) in 189 games and 11 goals and six assists in 41 postseason matches.
