Joliet Slammers News Release

(Joliet, IL) - The Joliet Slammers (15-23) out-hit the Schaumburg Boomers (23-16) on Saturday night by a total of 11 hits to eight but the Slammers also stranded 12 runners on base, and fell by a final of 6-2.

Brett Zawacki (2-4) struggled in the first inning, allowing four runs to come home for Schaumburg. Zawacki found his control in the next few innings as he lasted through the sixth but the big first inning for the Boomers turned out to be too much for Joliet.

Danny Jimenez (2-4) picked up his second victory of the year for Schaumburg, both of which have come against the Slammers.

Michael Wing put Joliet on the board in the bottom of the fourth, scoring Kyle Maunus on a RBI double and cutting the Boomer lead to 4-1. However Schaumburg immediately responded with another run in the top of the fifth, making it 5-1 and stretching their lead back to four runs.

Maunus scored again in the eighth inning for Joliet, coming home on an error by first baseman Brian McConkey. But once again, the Boomers responded with a run in the top of the ninth making it 6-2.

The Slammers put two runners on in the home half of the ninth, but like most of the night, Joliet could not bring the runners home.

The Slammers still have a chance for a series victory Sunday. Corey Kimes (2-4, 5.00) makes the start for Joliet in the rubber game that starts at 2:05 with the pre game show on 1340 WJOL beginning at 1:50 p.m.
