
Grizzlies Collect Walk off Victory against Florence

SAUGET, IL - Jet Butler drove in Chris McClendon on a ninth inning single and the Gateway Grizzlies picked up a 6-5 walk-off win against the Florence Freedom Saturday night at GCS Ballpark.
A crowd of 3,254 watched the Grizzlies score three runs in the final inning against Florence (23-15) closer Jorge Marban (2-1) to rally back from a two-run deficit.
Michael Pair tied the game in the ninth on a two-run home run, which was his fourth of the season. After the Pair home run, Gateway (25-12) drew two walks to set up the Butler game-winning hit.
Richard Barrett (1-0) picked up the win after tossing a perfect ninth inning with three strikeouts.
Gateway took the first lead of the game in the second inning. Vladimir Frias, Antone DeJesus and Matt Mirabal all singled with two outs before Johnson Johnson drew an RBI walk.
Florence scored three runs on three hits in the fifth. A run scored on a wild pitch, Pablo Bermudez picked up a fielder's choice RBI and Jacob Tanis drove in a run on a single.
After Florence tacked on another run in the fifth, Gateway scored two runs on an error and a Frias RBI single in the sixth.
Jeremy Hamiton picked up a sacrifice fly in the eighth to extend the Freedom lead to two runs.
The Grizzlies and Freedom wrap up their series Sunday afternoon at GCS Ballpark. It's Christian Family Day presented by WBGL and there will be a postgame concert. Right-hander Tucker Jensen (4-1) will get the start for the Grizzlies. First pitch is set for 3:05.
