Normal CornBelters News Release

ROCKFORD - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, gave up a lead in the ninth inning but earned a 4-3 win in 13 innings on Fridaynight at Aviators Stadium. The series continues with a 7:05 p.m. Saturday first pitch at Aviators Stadium.

The CornBelters again struck in the first inning as Keoni Manago and Mike Schwartz hit back-to-back doubles with one out. The Aviators greeted CornBelters pitcher Michael Schweiss in his first start by loading the bases with singles by the first three hitters and a sacrifice fly by Michael Hur to score Kenny Bryant, but a double play ended the threat to keep the game tied at 1-1 after one inning.

The Belters extended the lead to 3-1 in the fifth when a wild pitch by Aviators starter Drew Rucinski scored Matt Wright and Keoni Manago.

The Aviators tallied in the ninth when Elvin Rodriguez led off with a double and scored after two singles. Rockford loaded the bases with another single with one out, and a chopper just a few feet up the first base line by Jeff Kremer scored the tying run to send the game to the tenth inning.

The Belters finally broke through in the 13th after Pat McKenna led off with a double off the left field wall and was sacrificed to third, followed by an intentional walk to Luis De La Cruz, who entered a rundown to allow McKenna to score the lead run with a delayed steal.

Mitch Mormann (3-2) pitched the final two innings for the win, while Nathan O'Bryan (0-1) took the loss.
