Scharf named to CHL All-Star team

January 8, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
El Paso Buzzards News Release

EL PASO, Texas – El Paso Buzzards' center Jeff Scharf has been selected as El Paso's lone representative for the Central Hockey League's All-Star game. The gala will be held in Oklahoma City on Thursday, Jan. 23, at the new Ford Center, pitting the top layers from the CHL's Northern Conference against their counterparts from the Southern Conference.

"Being named an All-Star is unbelievable," Scharf said. "It's one of the goals of every professional hockey player to be considered one of the best and to make the All-Star squad signifies that. My goal is to not make a fool of myself out on the ice and just have a lot of fun being out there with the guys."

Scharf, 25, leads the Buzzards and is tied for 11th in the CHL in scoring this season. He has scored 16 goals, 22 assists for 38 points playing in all 33 games this season with El Paso. His four short-handed goals have him tied for third in the CHL and his six power-play goals have him tied for the Buzzards team lead. In his previous 10 games, Scharf, from Sudbury, ON, has been a scoring machine. He recorded six goals and nine assists in that span. His overall plus/minus rating of +3 shows why he is a great two-way player who can light the lamp and play lockdown defense.

"Jeff by far has been our most valuable player," said Buzzards' head coach Craig Coxe. "I've coached a lot of great players and he is one of the best. This season, Scharf has done an amazing job of winning faceoffs and creating a lot of great scoring opportunities for our club."

The Buzzards look to get back into the playoff hunt when El Paso hits the road Thursday, 6 p.m. against the Laredo Bucks in Laredo. El Paso remains nine points behind the Lubbock Cotton Kings for the fourth and final playoff spot in the Southern Conference.
