Wichita Thunder News Release

WICHITA, KS- Defenseman Vladimir Hartinger has been selected to play in the Dodge 2003 Central Hockey League All-Star Game, the Thunder front office announced today.

Hartinger, in his second season with the Thunder, will join Thunder center Travis Clayton on the Northern Conference squad. The 2002 Thunder Defenseman of the Year as a rookie, Hartinger is having an outstanding sophomore season. He leads all Thunder defensemen with seven goals and a plus/minus rating of +2. He is also second among Thunder defensemen with 15 points and is easily one of the hardest hitting players in the CHL.

"Travis and Vladimir are both very deserving of their all-star selection", said Thunder assistant general manager Joel T. Lomurno. "Travis has been among the CHL scoring leaders since day one and Vladimir has really matured into one of the best all around defensemen in the CHL"

The Dodge 2003 CHL All-Star Game will take place on Thursday, January 23rd at 7:15 p.m. in Oklahoma City. The Thunder are hosting a bus trip to the game and have about 15 seats remaining. Seats can be reserved, by contacting Matt at the Thunder office.

In other news, the Thunder acquired defenseman David Bourque from Memphis today for future considerations and traded both Bourque and defenseman Chad Nelson to the Corpus Christi Rayz for two players to be named later.

The Thunder also added two players today, signing rookie forward Andy Penny and experienced defenseman Evan Marble. Penny joined the Thunder today from Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), where he led the team and was second among all ACAC scorers with 17 goals and 32 points in just 15 games.

Meanwhile, Marble will join the Thunder tomorrow after spending most of the last six seasons playing in Europe. Following a stellar career at the University of Calgary, where he was a teammate of Thunder forward Todd Johnson, Marble spent the 1997-98 season with the Canadian National Team, where he notched 23 points in 56 games. Since then, he has played in Germany, Austria, Italy, Slovenia, Scotland and for the WCHL's Fresno Falcons.

"These two players will be huge additions to the lineup", said Thunder head coach Jim Latos. "We have been trying to sign both of them since before Thanksgiving and I expect them both to make an immediate impact."

The Thunder return to action on Friday versus the Indianapolis Ice. The first 2000 fans in attendance will receive Thunder Stix, courtesy of the Wichita Eagle and the Kansas Coliseum. Wichita will "square off" with the Tulsa Oilers on Saturday. Following the game, the Christian rock group Petra will perform in concert. Both games will face-off at 7:30 p.m.
