January 8, 2003 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
LUBBOCK, TX: January 8, 2003 â The Central Hockey League announced the remaining members (non-starters) of the Dodge 2003 Central Hockey League All-Star Game, which is scheduled for January 23rd in Oklahoma City. Lubbock Cotton Kings defenseman Derek Holland has been announced as a member of the Southern Conference squad.
"Holland is one of the top defensemen in league and The Hockey News said he is one of the best defenseman at this level," said Cotton Kings head coach Tracy Egeland. "He has been plagued with injuries this season, but when he has been active, he has been as productive as ever for us."
Holland, a 6'1" 200 pound defenseman, receives his third invitation to a league all-star game and his first as a non-starter in his three-year career. The Brandon, Manitoba native missed 5 games after an ankle injury in training camp and has missed the past 8 games with his knee injury, but he has been productive in the 18 games he has played in. The blueliner has 3 goals and 12 assists for 15 points in 18 games, which is a career high pace for Holland. Holland co-led the squad in scoring amongst defensemen for the month of November with 8 points (1g,7a). He marks as the eighth Cotton Kings player appearance in a league all-star game and the only Cotton King to appear in three all-star games. Holland recorded a goal in last season's CHL All-Star Game in Corpus Christi for the winning Southern conference squad.
