Sawyer Called up to Double-A

REDERICK, MD -The Frederick Keys are excited to announce that Keys catcher/first baseman, Wynston Sawyer, has been promoted to the Double-A Bowie Baysox. In the process, he becomes the 15th member of the Keys to receive a call-up to Double-A or Triple-A this season.

In 89 games with the orange and black, Sawyer, 24, batted .281 with 11 home runs, 51 RBIs, 19 doubles, one triple and 51 runs scored. He also registered a .421 on-base percentage and registered 12 more walks (63) than strikeouts (58). Entering Thursday's action, Sawyer ranks fourth among full-season minor leaguers in on-base percentage while he ranked fourth in the CL in walks.

Sawyer's first call-up to the Eastern League, the Californian batted a collective .255 over three seasons with the Keys to go with 17 home runs and 117 RBIs. Selected by Baltimore in the eighth round of the 2010 draft, Sawyer was taken out of Scripps Ranch (CA) High School.

In a corresponding move, the Keys received catcher Jerry McClanahan from Short-Season Aberdeen. His first promotion to the Eastern League, the 24-year-old played in 24 games with the IronBirds.

The Keys and Nationals conclude their series on Thursday night. Right-hander Jon Keller (0-2, 3.18) starts for Frederick against P-Nats righty Boone Whiting (10-3, 3.58).
