Saturday Misfortune Strikes Hoppers' Superhero Night

August 30, 2008 - South Atlantic League (SAL1)
Greensboro Grasshoppers News Release

GREENSBORO - Entering game three of a current five-game set against the Lexington Legends, the Greensboro Grasshoppers had not won a home Saturday game all season; this one was no different despite a strong early pitching performance as the Hoppers fell in their final home Saturday contest, 5-1.

Bryan Evans had a no-hitter going into the sixth inning and after retiring the first batter, Evans gave up a infield single to Craig Corrado. Although Corrado was caught trying to advance to second on the same play, Evans allowed three more hits in the inning and the Legends plated two runs, one earned, to take a lead the Hoppers would never threaten to regain.

Greensboro's lone run of the night came on a Ryan Anetsberger double that drove in Matt Dominguez. Both reached base in the fourth on their only hit of the game.

The Hoppers collected all five of their hits in the first five innings before Lexington's Leandro Cespedes and Reid Kelly shut down the Greensboro lineup for the remainder of the game.

Greensboro will look to even the series Sunday as the Hoppers and Legends play game four from NewBridge Bank Park beginning at 7:00 p.m.

NOTE: Please make note that Sunday's game is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. and not the usual 5:00 p.m. start time. The gates will open at 5:30 p.m. and fans will be allowed to go down on the field to play catch until 6:15 p.m. Following Sunday's game, the Hoppers will put on their final fireworks display of the 2008 season.
