
Shorebirds Stifle Captains 2-1

Lake County Captains News Release
(Salisbury, MD) - Joanniel Montero struck out a team high nine batters but the Captains fell short losing to the Delmarva Shorebirds 2-1 on Friday. Captains pitching struck out sixteen Shorebirds batters in the game. The Captains ended their season series with Delmarva winning ten and losing thirteen.
The Captains took the lead in the third inning against Birds starter Zach Britton when with Juan Valdes at second, Matt McBride doubled Valdes home and it was 1-0. Joe Nowicki gave the Shorebirds the lead in the bottom of the third inning with a two run home run off of Captains starter Montero and it was 2-1.
Montero suffered the loss and saw his record fall to 4-7 going five innings allowing two runs on three hits, walking two and striking out a team season high nine. Paolo Espino came on in the sixth inning then threw two scoreless innings walking three but striking out five. Rob Bryson mad his first appearance since going on the disabled list July 29th and pitched one scoreless inning striking out two. Britton picked up his 12th win of the season and is now 12-7. Hank Williamson pitched the final three innings and picked up his first save of the year.
The Captains will conclude the regular season with a three game series in Hagerstown beginning on Saturday. The Captains will send RHP Chris Archer (4-8, 4.36) to the mound to face the Suns RHP Tom Milone (0-3, 3.19) with game time at 7:05 PM. The Captains will host the second, and if necessary, the third game of the Northern Division Championship series at Classic Park on September 5th and 6th. The series is best of three games and the Captains will play game one on the road against the West Virginia Power (Brewers affiliate).
Tickets for all Captains home games including the 2008 SAL Playoffs are on sale at the Classic Park box office, by phone at 440-954-WINS (9467) or at captainsbaseball.com. Tickets for the Playoffs remain the same as regular season game tickets, $9 reserved seat, $7 bleachers, juniors, and seniors, $6 lawn. Lawn seats for the Playoffs will only be sold once the reserved seats and bleachers are sold out. The $7 group rate will still apply to groups of 20 or more.
