SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (4-3) defeated the Rio Grande Valley Vipers (1-7) tonight at Bert Ogden Arena, 126-109. The Warriors offense established new season-highs with 126 points on 54.4 percent shooting (43-of-79 FG) and 51.9 percent shooting from behind the arc (14-of-27 3FG).
All ten Warriors scared at least seven points tonight, with guard Devyn Marble logging a season-high 21 points and seven rebounds in his first start of the season. Guard Andrew Harrison had 16 points off the bench tonight, giving the Texas native his three-highest scoring games of the season in his home state (season-high 21 at Austin on Nov. 15; 19 points against the Vipers on Nov. 12).
Rio Grande Valley Vipers were led by Denver Nuggets assignment player Jarred Vanderbilt's 24 points in 27 minutes off the bench. Forward Jaron Blossomgame added 17 points and a game-high 10 rebounds, and guard Angel Rodriguez added 13 points and ten assists in a game-high 39 minutes.
The Warriors began the evening on an 11-0 run, the first time the team started a game with a run of ten or more unanswered points since March 4, 2018 against the Memphis Hustle (per the Elias Sports Bureau). Both teams shot 55.0 percent (11-of-20 FG) in a high scoring second quarter, with the Vipers taking their only lead late in the second quarter before Marble's driving layup gave the Warriors a 55-54 halftime lead.
The Warriors opened the second half on a 14-3 run, with Marble and guard Jeremy Pargo accounting for all 14 Sea Dub points. Santa Cruz did not relent for the remainder of the night, with the team scoring a season-high 71 points on 62.2 percent shooting (23-of-37 FG) and 81.2 percent from behind the arc (9-of-11 3FG).
The Warriors will complete their road trip on Monday night against the Texas Legends (tip-off 5:00 p.m. PST) in Frisco.
