Portland, ME - The Maine Red Claws, presented by Unum, improved to 5-0 for the first time in franchise history, defeating the Westchester Knicks Saturday night, 118-108.

Maine (5-0) was led by Bryce Brown, who finished with a season-high 29 points including 5-9 from three-point range. Boston Celtics Two-Way Player Tremont Waters added 24 points and 8 assists in the win, while Yante Maten recorded another double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds. Trey Davis added 15 points off the bench, while Tacko Fall scored 10 points and grabbed 11 boards. Kaiser Gates added 10 points in the win.

Westchester (1-6) was led by J.J. Moore with 22 points.

Maten got the scoring started for Maine with an easy baby hook to tie the game at 2. Brown followed that up with a driving lay-up. Maten and Zak Irvin traded shot for shot in the early going, as the Red Claws made their first 6 shots. The Red Claws led 17-15 at the first timeout. Maten continued to pour it on from both ends of the court, burying a three to put Maine up 2. Fall's monstrous dunk got the crowd into the game. Brown's three-point play late in the period gave Maine a 2 point lead, and the Claws led 37-35 after 1. Maten led all scorers with 13 points in the 1st.

In the 2nd, Waters threw in a three plus the foul for a rare four-point play. The Red Claws maintained a lead for several minutes of the quarter, and Trey Davis' three put Maine up 46-42. Waters stepped into a three to extend the lead to 7. Lamar Peters buried a three to keep the Knicks close, but John Bohannon's three-point play made it 56-48 Red Claws. Brown's three made it a double-digit game, and Maine went up 61-48. Westchester went on a 9-0 run to get back into the game, but Maine led 64-57 at the half. Maine shot 50% (23-46) from the field in the first half, including 42.9% (9-23) from downtown. Westchester also shot 50% (24-48) from the floor.

In the second half, Brown stopped an early scoring drought with a corner three. Brown buried another from the same spot, and the Red Claws suddenly led 70-59. The hot shooting from the outside continued, with Gates and Brown filling it up. The Knicks went on a run to get back in the game, but Davis dropped in a bucket late in the quarter, followed by a catch -and-shoot three, and Maine led 90-78 after 3.

In the 4th, the Knicks started the period scoring 5 straight to cut the deficit to 7. Maten's three-point play stopped the run. Tacko scored on back-to-back possessions to put Maine up 15. Brown continued the hot shooting, forcing Westchester to call timeout as the Claws went up 109-90. The Red Claws cruised to victory from there. Maine shot 49.4% (44-89) from the field, 39% (16-41) from three-point range and 10-15 from the free throw line. Westchester shot 45.1% (41-91) from the floor, 37.8% (14-37) from downtown and 8-11 from the charity stripe.
