Santa Cruz Warriors Defeat Los Angeles in First of Two Game Series

LOS ANGELES, Calif. - The Santa Cruz Warriors defeated the Los Angeles D-Fenders 93-92 Friday night in a game that went down to the wire after both teams ran up double-digit leads.
The Santa Cruz Warriors were led by Taylor Griffin, who scored 22 points and 13 rebounds, logging his second double-double of the season. Mickell Gladness recorded a game-high 14 rebounds to go along with his 13 points and 5 blocks. It was Gladness' first double-double of the season.
Los Angeles was led by Cortney Fortson, who scored a game-high 24 points. Gary Flowers recorded the D-Fenders' only double-double of the night with 20 points and 12 rebounds.
The D-Fenders came out roaring in the first quarter, leading 37-22 at the end of the period. They extended the lead to 17 before the Santa Cruz Warriors crawled their way back to tie the game 47-47 at the half. The Warriors continued their hot streak, leading by 6 at the end of the third. Los Angeles made it a tight game in the fourth, but the Warriors were able to pull out the one-point victory.
The Warriors were again led by their stout defense, holding the D-Fenders to 33.7% shooting from the field and outrebounding their opponent 50-42.
The Santa Cruz Warriors will be back in action Saturday in Los Angeles at 6:30 p.m. for the second of their two-game series against the D-Fenders.
