Tulsa 66ers News Release
TULSA, OK - The Tulsa 66ers used a team effort to take down the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, 109-98, on Saturday night at the SpiritBank Event Center with four players scoring 18 or more points. Oklahoma City Thunder assignee Reggie Jackson posted 20 points, 11 assists and six rebounds in the Tulsa win.
Forward Dominique Sutton collected his second-straight double-double with 21 points and 10 boards and OKC assignee Daniel Orton scored 18 with four rebounds and four assists in Tulsa's highest-scoring game this year.
Guard Andy Rautins scored 18 points on 6-for-10 shooting from behind the 3-point arc. Guard Jeremy Lamb scored 12 points with three rebounds and an assist.
The 66ers (4-2) showed their best shooting performance of the season, going 40-for-81 (.494) from the field, 10-for-20 (.500) from 3-point range and 19-for-22 (.864) from the free throw stripe. Tulsa dished out a season-best 26 assists.
"We've been talking all season with our team about how the thing we want to accomplish is to play the Oklahoma City system," said Tulsa Head Coach Darko Rajakovic. "To share the ball, to play like a team, to develop a good defensive system. I think that our players have been working really hard to improve on that."
Rio Grande Valley (2-4) was led by Mike Singletary's 20 points. Center Tim Ohlbrecht scored 16 points and grabbed eight rebounds.
Tulsa started the game shooting 13-for-21 (.619) from the field in the first quarter to lead 34-26 after one. Rio Grande Valley held the 66ers to 15 points in the second quarter and took a 50-49 lead into the halftime break.
The Vipers led 66-64 midway through the third quarter before a 10-1 Tulsa run put the 66ers ahead - a lead they would hold for the remainder of the night.
The 66ers and Vipers face off for the third time in four days on Sunday afternoon at 4:00 inside the SpiritBank Event Center. For more information, visit Tulsa66ers.com.
