Santa Cruz Warriors News Release
ONTARIO, CA- The Santa Cruz Warriors (5-5) defeated the Agua Caliente Clippers (4-5) 106-97 at the Toyota Center in Ontario, California. The Warriors, who previously lost four of their last five games, are now 4-2 on the road this season.
Six Warriors scored in double figures today, with guard Devyn Marble scoring 16 points with nine coming in the fourth quarter. Guard Andrew Harrison had 10 points and a season-high 10 assists off the bench. The Warriors reserves scored 49 points, with rookies D.J. Johnson and Isaiah Reese establishing new season-highs of 14 and 11 points, respectively.
Agua Caliente was led by guard James Palmer Jr.'s 23 points on 10-of-13 shooting (76.9 percent). Los Angeles Clippers center Mfiondu Kabengele, currently on assignment with Agua Caliente, logged 15 points, a game-high 19 rebounds and three blocks in 38 minutes. Two-way guard Derrick Walton Jr. added eight points and ten assists.
All five Warriors starters scored in the opening sequence to take a 17-12 lead, but the Clippers responded after the time-out with a 17-4 run to grow an eight-point lead. Santa Cruz took a narrow 51-50 halftime lead due to the Warriors bench scoring 17 of the team's 26 second-quarter points and holding the Clippers to 28.1 percent shooting (9-of-32) in the period.
The Warriors built their lead to a game-high 11 points in the third quarter by not committing a turnover and forcing seven Clippers giveaways. Marble's nine points in the fourth steadied the Warriors offense as they completed the nine-point victory.
Santa Cruz will now travel to New York for a two-game trip to play the Westchester Knicks on Wednesday, December 4 and the Long Island Nets on Friday, December 6. The Warriors will then return home to face the Windy City Bulls on Sunday, December 8 for the team's first-ever White Out night, with the first 1,000 fans receiving a fan-designed Warriors White Out t-shirt, courtesy of Something Inked.
