Santa Cruz Warriors Beat Iowa Wolves in Overtime, 116-112

SANTA CRUZ, CA - The Santa Cruz Warriors (12-17) beat the Iowa Wolves (13-16) Friday night at Kaiser Permanente Arena in overtime, 116-112.

Warriors Forward Jerome Robinson led the team with 26 points and added nine rebounds and nine assists. Forward LJ Figueroa followed closely with 24 points and 10 rebounds and guard Kendall Smith closed out the night with 12 points and nine assists.

Center Chris Silva led the Wolves with 26 points, 17 rebounds and six assists and forward Melvin Frazier Jr. had 21 points and 12 rebounds. Guard McKinley Wright IV finished the night with 21 points for Iowa.

The Wolves took the lead early in the first quarter thanks to 20 combined points from Frazier Jr and Silva, closing out the first quarter with a 32-29 lead over the Warriors. Santa Cruz brought the lead to within one point with just seconds remaining in the second quarter, but Iowa did not give up the lead, heading into halftime with a 62-59 lead over the Warriors.

Santa Cruz took the lead mid-way through the third quarter, but Iowa quickly came back to secure an 87-80 lead heading into the final frame. Down by 10 early in the fourth quarter, the Warriors offense brought the Wolves lead down to just two points with 55.4 seconds remaining. A drive to the basket by the Warriors Robinson tied the game with 24.5 seconds remaining, sending the contest into overtime. A three from Santa Cruz guard Kalob Ledoux and a layup from Figueroa gave the Sea Dubs the lead they needed to secure the overtime win over the Iowa Wolves, 116-112.
