
Santa Cruz Swept by Spurs in Weekday Doubleheader

CEDAR PARK, Tex. - The NBA D-League Champion Santa Cruz Warriors (9-9) fell to the Austin Spurs (14-3) 109-80 on Wednesday night at Cedar Park Center. With tonight's victory, the Spurs complete the weekday doubleheader sweep of Santa Cruz, and claim the 3-1 edge in this season's series.
Santa Cruz's Darington Hobson notched a game-high 20 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists, and 4 steals. Jarred Shaw had 19 points, while Ronnie Brewer added 13 in the loss to Austin. Santa Cruz was once again without Elliot Williams and Daniel Orton, with total of eight players available for tonight's contest.
The Spurs were paced by Tim Hardaway Jr., on assignment from the Atlanta Hawks, who posted 18 points. Cady Lalanne recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Youssou Ndoye and Demetri McCamey had 14 apiece.
The Spurs jumped out to an early 10-point lead in the opening minutes of the first quarter behind a barrage of made three-point shots from McCamey, Sykes, and Lalanne. Santa Cruz was held to a 39.1% field goal percentage in the first quarter, as Austin entered the second period with a 16-point advantage.
Austin would extend their distance from the Warriors behind a stellar 67% shooting effort in the second quarter, holding Santa Cruz to just 30% from the floor. The Warriors entered the lockeroom at a deficit of 25 points.
The remainder of the game would see Austin continue to keep Santa Cruz out of striking distance, owning 30+ point advantages in the final two frames.
