BayHawks Fall to Mad Ants Behind Slow Second Half
December 30, 2015 - NBA G League (G League)
Erie BayHawks News Release
Erie, Pennsylvania - It was the tale of two halves this evening as the Erie BayHawks (5-10) fell to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants (10-7), 80-106 at Erie Insurance Arena.
The first quarter featured runs from both teams with Fort Wayne going on an 11-0 run midway through the first. The BayHawks answered with an 8-0 run of their own capped by two Myck Kabongo three-pointers and a commanding Melvin Ejim dunk. The second quarter held more even play between the two teams with no team leading by more than six and both shooting better than 50%. Shayne Whittington kept the BayHawks in check in the quarter, posting 10 points for Fort Wayne. The half closed tied, 49-49.
The BayHawks stayed with the Mad Ants for much of the third quarter until Fort Wayne went on a 8-2 run to close it and didn't look back from there. Alex Davis did what he could to maintain the close game in the third and for a three minute span, Davis posted all nine BayHawks points. Balanced scoring and 69% shooting from the field led the Mad Ants to a 14-32 fourth quarter. The BayHawks had little going offensively in the fourth, hitting only 28% of their shots and only getting to the free throw line once.
Whittington, on assignment from the Indiana Pacers, had a game-high 19 points to go with seven rebounds. Rakeem Christmas, also on assignment from the Pacers, posted a points-rebound double-double with 11 points and 14 rebounds. Anthony Harris had 18 points and CJ Fair rounded out the balanced scoring of the Mad Ants with 18.
Alex Davis had 17 points on 5 of 5 shooting from the free throw line. Myck Kabongo posted 14 points in his third start in a row with Keith Appling still sidelined by a broken thumb. After an offensive outpouring last night, Tyler Harvey had 14 points.
The BayHawks travel to Grand Rapids to face the Drive this Sunday, January 2nd before heading to Santa Cruz for the NBA Development League Showcase. Erie returns home Wednesday, January 13 in a revenge game against the Fort Wayne Mad Ants. All Wednesday games will feature $1 hotdogs, popcorn, and sodas courtesy of Smith's Provisions. Kids 12 and under receive free tickets. Tickets available at eriebayhawks.com.
