Lancaster Stormers News Release
Humberto Sanchez limited the Barnstormers to two hits over seven innings as Camden tripped up Lancaster, 6-1, in the middle game of a three-game series.
Lancaster now trails York by six games in the second half.
Against Sanchez and a pair of relievers, Lancaster managed only four baserunners on the evening. One was Travis Metcalf on a one-out homer to left in the fifth inning that tied the game at one. The other three were all Matt Watson who had a single off Sanchez in the sixth and a pair of walks.
Sanchez (2-1) struck out five and walked one in his seven innings of work.
John Halama (5-6) pitched a solid game for the Barnstormers and kept them in the hunt until the late innings. The Riversharks nicked him for a run in the second on singles by Danny Richar and Jonel Pacheco, a sacrifice bunt and Juan Francia's grounder to short.
That would be it for the Riversharks until the bottom of the seventh. Toby Hall cranked a one-out double beyond Watson's reach in left. Francia hit a grounder down the third base line. It was knocked down by Terry Tiffee. The Lancaster third baseman decided to make a throw but bounced the ball past Tommy Everidge for an error as pinch runner Brian Burgamy motored to third. Ruddy Yan produced the go-ahead run with a shallow sacrifice fly to right.
The Riversharks busted the game open with four in the eighth. Back-to-back bloop hits to right by Lloyd Turner and Noah Hall started the assault. Halama got Willis Otanez on a routine fly to center but then got atypically wild, walking three of the next four hitters around a force play grounder as two more runs scored. Tim McNab came on with the bases loaded and surrendered a two-run double to left center off the bat of Francia to cap the scoring.
Lancaster and Camden will conclude the series on Friday evening at 7:05. Ross Peeples (7-5) will make a spot start for the Barnstormers against Carlos Vasquez (10-4). The game will be aired on Fox Sports Radio, 1490, WLPA and streamed live on sportsjuice.com.
