Frisco RoughRiders News Release
The RoughRiders fell to the Missions 8-3 as Chad Tracy sets a new single season record for Frisco
The RoughRiders snapped their five-game winning streak, losing to the Missions 8-3 on Thursday in San Antonio. Chad Tracy's ninth inning solo home run gives him a Texas League-best 25 home runs on the season and also set a new franchise record for RBI in a season with 104.
The Missions scored a run in the first frame to take the 1-0 lead, but Frisco answered with a pair of runs in the second inning when Johnny Whittleman singled followed by a Steve Murphy two-run home run to put the RoughRiders on top 2-1. San Antonio tied the score at two in the third inning on an RBI ground out by Logan Forsythe. The Missions would retake the lead in the fifth with two runs and added four more in the eighth inning to take a commanding 8-2 advantage. Frisco attempted a comeback with Tracy's league-leading 25th home run in the ninth inning, but San Antonio held on for the 8-3 win.
Frisco starter Michael Kirkman (5-7) allowed four runs on seven hits over five frames, striking out three and walking two. Frisco reliever Corey Young allowed four runs out of the bullpen over 1.1 innings. San Antonio starter Nathan Culp (7-8) gave up just two runs on five hits over six innings, striking out one and walking none.
Tracy passes Nate Gold who previously held the franchise-record with 103 RBI in 2006. With 11 games left in the regular season, Tracy is nine home runs behind Gold's single-season franchise record of 34 homers. The RoughRiders managed just six hits, including multi-hit performances from Tracy and Dustin Majewski. For Steve Murphy it was his second two-run home run in as many games (Whittleman on base both times), giving him nine homers on the season.
Craig Cooper led the San Antonio offense with a game-best three hits and Forsythe collected three RBI.
With the RoughRiders loss and Midland win, Frisco is now three games behind the RockHounds for first place in the South Division. Frisco and San Antonio will play the series finale on Friday with first pitch at 7:05 p.m. The 'Riders will return home on Saturday to begin the final homestand of the regular season with three against Midland and four against Corpus Christi. Great tickets are still available by visiting the Dr Pepper Ballpark Ticket Office or by calling 972-731-9200.
