Frisco RoughRiders News Release
FRISCO, TX - Kasey Kiker, who currently leads the Texas League in strikeouts with 120, has been named to the 2009 USA Baseball World Cup Team.
USA Baseball is the defending World Cup Champion, having defeated Cuba (6-3) in 2007 in Taipei, Taiwan. This title was the first for the United States since 1974. The 2009 team will arrive in Cary (Raleigh), North Carolina on Tuesday, September 1, begin practice on Wednesday, September 2, and play warm-up games against Team Canada at the USA Baseball National Training Complex that week. On Monday, September 7, USA Baseball will depart for Germany for first round games, facing Germany, Venezuela, and China with the top two teams advancing. The final round will be in Italy.
"It is a great honor to be named to USA Baseball and get the chance to play with elite players from around the world," Kiker commented. "It's a great privilege to play overseas and wear USA across my chest."
On the season, Kiker is 7-7 with a 3.86 ERA (54 ER/126 IP) with 120 strikeouts and 66 walks. The 21-year old was selected in the first round (12th overall) in the 2006 June draft out of Russell County High School (Alabama). His 120 strikeouts is a single season career-best over his four year professional career.

Other Texas Leaguers selected to the roster include C Jason Castro (Corpus Christi - Houston Astros), LHP Cory Luebke (San Antonio - San Diego Padres), and LHP Trevor Reckling (Arkansas - Los Angeles Angels).
