Samson's Bases-Clearing Double Wins It for X's

Fargo-Moorhead, IN- The Sioux City Explorers were down 5-1 after four innings of play but get the comeback victory, scoring seven unanswered runs and winning with a 8-5 score in twelve innings at Newman Outdoor Field.

Sioux City put up the first run of the contest, scoring an unearned run off an error by the shortstop in the first inning.

Fargo-Moorhead matched the X's run and added another four to take a whopping 5-1 lead after two innings of play. Three runs were scored off of two fielder's choices by the Explorers defense. The RedHawks tacked on another two runs off an RBI double hit to left-field by Cameron Newell in the second inning.

Explorers trailed Fargo-Moorhead 5-1, until the fifth inning. X's designated hitter Tim Colwell ripped an RBI double to right-field to score Matty Johnson from second base. Sioux City tied it at 5-5 with a three-run shot smashed by X's right-fielder Michael Lang.

The score would remain tied at 5-5, through nine innings of play and forcing extra innings at Newman Outdoor Field. After nine innings of play, Explorers 5, RedHawks 5 in Fargo-Moorhead.

Neither squad would score again, until the 12th inning. In the top half, the Explorers loaded up the bases on two singles and an intentional walk. With the bases loaded and one out, X's shortstop Nate Samson came in clutch, ripping a bases clearing double to give Sioux City the lead in extra innings.

In the bottom of the 12th inning, X's right-hander Connor Overton (2-0) forces a double-play and a 3-1 groundouts to clinch the victory for Sioux City. Final score, Explorers 8, Fargo-Moorhead 5.
