Fargo-Moorhead wins 11-8

FARGO, ND -- The previous four games had the Fargo-Moorhead offense struggling, scoring no more than three runs in any of them. Friday night against their Northern Division rival Winnipeg at home, they put 11 on the board in an 11-8 win. They built an 11-4 lead going into the ninth, and a couple of costly errors nearly allowed the road team to come back. But they held off the late spurt and won game two of the series.

Winnipeg put the first run on the board in the top of the first when Josh Romanski reached on a fielder's choice and scored thanks to a Jacob Rogers RBI. From that point the game was all RedHawks, scoring eight total runs in the third, fourth, and fifth innings. Keury De La Cruz continued his great play with a two-RBI double, then scored on an RBI by Josh Mazzola. The former Goldeye continued his great play against his former team. After a walk-off RBI on Thursday, he went 3-for-5 with three RBIs and a home run in Friday's contest.

The fourth inning had the home team adding three more runs to stretch the lead to 6-1. Ryan Wagner blasted a two-run homer in the fifth over the left field fence to widen the gap even more. In the sixth Winnipeg put another run on the board, but the "?Hawks countered with Mazzola's two-run shot. K.D. Kang added a solo bomb in the seventh to put the game out of reach at 11-3.

Even with the Goldeyes scoring five in the last two innings the game was well in hand for F-M. The damage was mostly self-inflicted since all four runs in the top of the ninth went unearned. Despite the late shaky defense the "?Hawks had good contributions from all over. Including starting pitcher Tyler Alexander going eight innings, and striking out nine to only three earned runs.

Alexander (3-1) got the win for the RedHawks who are now 13-8 and have won six of their past seven. Kevin McGovern (0-1) took the loss for the Goldeyes who fall to 11-11. Game three of this four game series will be played Saturday at 6:00 p.m. at Newman Outdoor Field.
