WICHITA WINS 4TH STRAIGHT

The Wichita Wingnuts won their fourth straight, improving to 4-0 on their current road trip with a 10-2 rain-shortened victory over the Texas AirHogs last night at Potter County Memorial Stadium. Wichita grabbed the lead three batters in, as a Christian Stringer triple came around to score on a Brent Clevlen RBI bounce out. After Texas tied it with a run in the second, the Wingnuts regained the lead in the third on a sacrifice fly by Clevlen and RBI double by T.J. Mittelstaedt. The AirHogs pulled a run back in the fourth before the visitors put up a seven spot in the fifth. After two singles and an error loaded the bases, the Texas staff walked three straight to put Wichita up by four. Richard Prigatano and Harrison Kain followed with a pair of two-run singles, putting the Wingnuts in front 10-2. The eight-run lead was more than enough for Alex Boshers, who allowed just one earned run in six innings in his first start of 2016, earning his first career quality start. The game was called in the ninth due to rain, and because the ninth inning was not completed, the game reverted to an eight-inning final.

BOSHERS SEIZES CHANCE

Slotted into the starting rotation to fill in for the injured Anthony Capra, Alex Boshers took his opportunity and ran with it in last night's win over the Texas AirHogs, turning in his first career quality start in what was just the second start of his professional career. The righty allowed just one earned run over a career-high six innings while striking out a new career-high five on his way to his first win as a starter.

SIX IS THE MAGIC NUMBER

The magic number for Wingnuts wins so far this season has been six, as they have scored six runs or more in nine of their 10 wins in 2016. Overall, their record is 9-2 when they put up at least six runs, and just 1-10 when they fail to reach six. So far on the current road trip, Wichita has scored at least seven runs in all four games, and is averaging 8.3 runs per contest as they have gotten off to a 4-0 start on this seven-game trip through Kansas City and Texas. For the season, the Wingnuts offense is averaging just a shade under six runs per ballgame, only trailing the St. Paul Saints in that category.
