St. George RoadRunners News Release

ST. GEORGE - The script from Monday night's game between the St. George RoadRunners and the Victoria Seals was edited slightly, but the dramatic ending remained the same. Behind a large run-scoring inning, solid starting pitching and a Seals' comeback held in check, the RoadRunners beat Victoria 15-9 in game two of the three-game series Tuesday night.

St. George moves its second half record to 10-9 (35-24 overall) while the Seals continue to slide away from the Northern Division leaders with a 7-14 record.

Gary Harris from the leadoff spot paced the STG offense going 4-for-6 with two doubles, three runs and three RBI. Yosvany Almario and Ryan Stevenson each added 3 RBI a piece. A.J. Valentine's only hit was his 14th home run of the year pulling him even with league leader Jamar Hill.

The home club scored 10 runs in the top of the 5th inning to pull ahead comfortably. Harris doubled to lead off, Valentine walked and DH Cody Nowlin was hit by a pitch from Seals starter Aaron Troila with two down. Henry Calderon drew a walk to plate the first run. Stevenson cleared the bags with a three-run double to right field and advanced to third on an errant cutoff throw. Eric Pringle singled on the first pitch to plate Stevenson. Chase Leavitt beat out an infield hit to third setting the table again for Harris who lined his second two-bagger bringing home a pair. Yosvany Almario blooped a single to right sending Pringle home and knocking Troila (0-1) out of the game. Reliever Phil Sobkow entered and surrendered Valentine's home run inside the right field pole to close out the ten-run scoring rally.

The offensive support was enough for RoadRunner southpaw Luis Gonzalez who went five innings and allowed one run on five hits to pick up his sixth win. In relief, Angel Sanchez made a dubious debut. After shutting down a Victoria threat in the seventh, Sanchez allowed three runs without an out in the eighth to inflate his ERA to 81.00.

Victoria was led offensively by three hits night from Wilver Perez and Brian Rios. Perez touched home three times while Rios knocked home three with base hits in the seventh and eighth innings.

The series concludes Wednesday night with the Second Annual Paint the Park Pink Night bringing awareness to breast cancer. First pitch is scheduled at 7:05pm Mountain. The RoadRunners will start RHP Justin Abbott (0-3, 7.18). Victoria will throw RHP James Garcia (2-1, 6.17).

Listen to the live action on the RoadRunners Radio Network with John Potter beginning with the pregame show at 6:50pm.
