Irabu on the mound for the Armada
August 5, 2009 - Golden Baseball League (GBL)
Long Beach Armada News Release
The Armada continues a three game series tonight against the rival Orange County Flyers when Hideki Irabu takes the mound for Long Beach at Cal State Fullerton's Goodwin Field at 7pm. The Armada is currently 8-9 in the second half of the GBL season (28-27 overall) and three games behind first place Orange County (10-5, 27-25). Irabu (5-3, 3.49 ERA) makes his 10th start of the season for Long Beach. He leads the team with 63 strikeouts on the year, an average of seven per game. The former major leaguer and one of Japan's hardest throwing arms ever looks to keep the Armada sailing fast toward the head of the pack in the Golden League's South Division. Long Beach has won five of its last six games, including a 9-6 win over the Flyers on Tuesday. In the game, the Armada offense surged ahead of the Flyers with 17 hits, highlighted by two home runs from All-Star catcher Andy Bouchie.
