Sioux City Explorers News Release

LINCOLN, NE -- Lincoln scores 2 runs in the 2nd and 2 in the 4th and the Explorers come away empty handed in 4 games with the Dogs, losing 4-0 on Thursday night at Haymarket Park.

Cameron Cheek pitched in and out trouble for his 4 innings. Mario Delgado had a RBI single and Skip Adams had a sac fly in the 2nd inning. Dustin Yount had a 2 run single in the 4th.

Sioux City could do nothing against Dogs starter Jason Jarvis. The Explorers did strand 8 runners on the night; they did have a pair of 1 out singles by Dustin Jones and Jason Tuttle in the 3rd but the key hit eluded Sioux City, not only tonight but throughout the series.

Jarvis and R.D. Spiehs combined on a 6 hit shutout, the 6th time this season that the Explorers have been shutout. Jarvis improved to 2-5, Cheek fell to 2-2 and Spiehs pitched 3 innings to get his 5th save.

Jones went 3-4 and made one the greatest catches of the year, robbing Jonny Kaplan in the 6th.

Sioux City will try and rebound against Sioux Falls, begining a 3 game series Friday night at Lewis & Clark Park. Tim Layden is scheduled to pitch for the X's; Pat Mahomes will take the hill for the Yellowbirds. Game time is 7:05, tickets are available by calling 277-WINS.
