
AirHogs Drop Two to El Paso

El Paso, TX (07.10.08) - The Grand Prairie AirHogs lost both games of a doubleheader on Thursday, falling 3-2 in 11 innings in game one and 6-0 in the second game. In the first game, Grand Prairie wasted no time and put their first run on the board in the top of the first inning. Aaron Garza reached base on a double off the wall in left center field. He advanced to third as the center fielder bobbled the ball. Billy Munoz plated him on an RBI single into left field. El Paso evened the score at 1-1 in the bottom of the fourth. The Diablos loaded the bases up with one out. Brian Smith drew a walk to bring in Bryan Cooksey for the run. Grand Prairie turned a 4-6-3 double play to end the inning. The Diablos took the 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fifth. With two down, Stantrel Smith reached on a single into short right field. He would steal second and score on a Cooksey pop fly that turned into a double as the wind blew it to the wall in center field. The AirHogs knotted the score back up at 2-2 in the top of the sixth. With runners on the corners and two away, Edwin Maldonado looped a single into shallow right field to bring in Garza for his second run of the game. In the bottom of the eleventh the Diablos got the victory, 3-2. With the bases loaded and two away, Jose Cordero walked Kory Drew to bring in Jorge Alvarez from third for the winning run. In game two, El Paso scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning. Alvarez and Kent came up with RBI singles, while Bryon Smith came up with an RBI double in the frame. El Paso extended its lead to 4-0 in the bottom of the fourth. Brian Cooksey reached on a two out triple into deep right field and would eventually come in. The Diablos put the game away in the bottom of the fifth, pushing their lead to 6-0 on a two RBI double down the third base line for Bryon Smith. Nat Harris started the first game for Grand Prairie and got the no decision. He hurled five solid innings and allowed just two earned runs off of six hits with three strikeouts and one walk. A.J. Jenkins (0-2) got the loss in game one. He went 1.1 innings and allowed one run on one hit with two walks and a strikeout.
Josh Kauten started the first game for El Paso. He lasted 5.1 innings and gave up two runs, one earned, off of four hits with five strikeouts and two walks. Brandon Hudson (2-0) was the winning pitcher. He went one inning and gave up no runs. Justin Garcia ( 5-3) started game two for Grand Prairie and was the losing pitcher. He went five innings, surrendering six runs on seven hits with two walks and one strikeout. Adam Blackley (4-5) started game two for El Paso and earned the victory. He pitched seven shutout innings, allowing just three hits with six strikeouts and one walk.
