Victoria Salmon Kings News Release

Victoria, BC- The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, are pleased to introduce the Victoria Salmon Kings Hat Trick for Literacy reading campaign. The program, which has been distributed to all Greater Victoria School District 61 Elementary Schools, challenges students to 'Become Bookworms - and get Hooked on Reading!'

Last year the Victoria Salmon Kings launched their first annual Hat Trick for Literacy campaign with three participating schools in the Victoria area. This season, program has expanded to a district-wide effort. By participating in the Hat Trick for Literacy program, students are encouraged read three books and submit three books reports in exchange for a ticket to a Salmon Kings game against the Las Vegas Wranglers, February 21, 23, or 24, 2007.

In addition, the three schools which submit the most completed registration forms will receive a visit from the Salmon Kings players to deliver the tickets. Along with Marty the Marmot, the Salmon Kings will tour the schools, read in the classrooms, and challenge students to a friendly game of floor hockey.

"We are thankful that schools are welcoming this beneficial program," said Tom Billings, Communications and Community Relations Manager for the Salmon Kings. "Our athletes want students to understand reading is an important part of their education, and are happy to participate and encourage positive learning habits."
