Salmon King wins RBK Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week

Victoria, BC - The Victoria Salmon Kings, proud affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks and Manitoba Moose, announced today that goaltender Billy Thompson has been named the RBK Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week.

Thompson had a tremendous week backstopping Victoria to a pair of crucial victories against the Alaska Aces to secure their first West Division title.

"Billy is very deserving of this honor," Vice President of Hockey Operations and General Manager Dan Belisle said. "His performance on both Friday and Saturday nights were paramount to our overall team success."

Thompson and the Salmon Kings shut out the Aces on Friday evening by a score of 2-0. The Saskatoon, SK native stopped all 35 shots on route to his second shut out of the season.

The 6-2, 200lbs Thompson followed up the Friday night performance with another outstanding effort on Saturday evening stopping 40 of 41 shots in a 4-1 Salmon Kings win.

The 25-year-old finished the week with a 2-0-0 record, a 0.50 goals against average and a save percentage of 0.980. He ended the season with a record of 18-12-2 with a 3.24 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage in 34 games.

Thompson spent the last four years in the AHL with both Binghamton and Bridgeport. He was a 5th round selection (#136 overall) of the Florida Panthers in the 2001 NHL Entry Draft.
