Victoria's Thompson Named Rbk Hockey Goalie Of The Week

PRINCETON, N.J. - Billy Thompson of the Victoria Salmon Kings is the Rbk Hockey ECHL Goaltender of the Week for Mar. 31-Apr. 5.

The Saskatoon, Saskatchewan native was 2-0-0 with a shutout, a 0.50 goals-against average and a .980 save percentage to help the Salmon Kings go 2-1-0 and win the West Division with 91 points. It is the first title for Victoria, which finished 42-23-7 and broke the team records for wins and points.

The 6-foot-2 and 200-pound Thompson stopped all 35 shots he faced to record his second shutout of the season in a 2-0 win against Alaska on Apr. 4 and turned aside 40 of 41 shots in a 4-1 win against Alaska on Apr. 5.

The 25 year old is 18-12-2 with a 3.24 goals-against average and a .907 save percentage in 34 games.

Thompson has played in the American Hockey League the last four seasons with the Binghamton Senators and the Bridgeport Sound Tigers where he is 53-58-8 with four shutouts, a 3.31 goals-against average and a .900 save percentage in 136 games.

Runners Up: Davis Parley, South Carolina (2-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .952 save pct.) and Jason Smith, Trenton (2-0-0, 1.50 GAA, .951 save pct.).

Also Nominated: Cody Rudkowsky (Cincinnati), Kevin Nastiuk (Florida), Dan Turple (Gwinnett) and Nathan Lawson (Utah).
