SALEM, VA (JULY 14, 2010) - Salem used strong pitching and a clutch three-run double from former Tar Heel Tim Federowicz to shut out Winston-Salem 4-0 on Wednesday night at Lewis-Gale Field. The Red Sox evened the season series with Winston-Salem at five games apiece and took the first of the teams' four-game set in the Roanoke Valley.

Terry Doyle started the game for the Dash (11-8, 54-35) and gave up a first-inning run when Oscar Tejeda singled home Mitch Dening from second base.

Salem (9-10, 51-38) led 1-0 for the bulk of the contest, as Michael Lee kept the Dash off-balance for five innings. He was relieved by Mark Holliman, who picked up where Lee (7-3) left off, only allowing two of the 13 men he faced to reach base.

Doyle (5-4) threw six scoreless frames after the first inning and Charlis Burdie replaced him to start the eighth. After allowing a soft, one-out single, Burdie walked the bases loaded. He retired Jorge Padron on a lineout to shallow center, bringing Federowicz to the plate with two outs.

The former UNC backstop laced the first pitch he saw over Brandon Short's head to the centerfield wall, clearing the bases and putting the Red Sox ahead 4-0.

Holliman pitched a perfect ninth inning for his first save. Lee collected the win with five shutout innings.

Doyle suffered the tough-luck loss, allowing one run one five hits in seven innings. He struck out seven, walked two and hit a batter. His three-start winning-streak came to an end, despite lowering his ERA by more than 20 points on the night.

Winston-Salem looks to even the series on Thursday night when RHP Dylan Axelrod (4-1, 2.28) goes to the mound for the Dash against RHP Caleb Clay (3-7, 4.28). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. and the audio broadcast begins at 6:45 on www.wsdash.com .

The Dash returns to BB&T Ballpark on Thursday, July 22 for a series against the Potomac Nationals.
