Perez Promoted to Double-A

The Cincinnati Reds have announced the promotion of outfielder Felix Perez to Double-A Carolina. Perez was hitting .338 with nine RBI in 16 games with the Hillcats this season. In this past series against Winston-Salem, Perez hit 5-for-11 (.455) with two triples and five RBI.

Overall in six games against the Dash Perez has a hit in each game. He went 11-for-24 (.458) with two doubles, two triples and six RBI.

He made his American debut with the Hillcats on June 26.

Perez started his career with the Reds' Dominican Summer League affiliate. He made his first appearance May 29. With the DSL Reds, he hit .429 in 16 games with one home run and 14 RBI. His on-base percentage was .486.

Perez joined the organization May 17 for a $550,000 signing bonus. A 25-year-old Cuban defector, he left his home country two years ago. He was originally set to sign for $3.5 million with the New York Yankees last year, but Major League Baseball suspended him for one year after falsifying age records.

Perez marks the second Cuban-born player the Reds have signed this year. Cincinnati inked 22-year-old Aroldis Chapman for a six year, $30.25 million contract in January.

The Hillcats receive outfielder Denis Phipps from Double-A Carolina in a corresponding roster move. Phipps was hitting .242 with two home runs and 28 RBI in 82 games with the Mudcats.
