Boise Hawks News Release
KEIZER, Ore. - Ryder Jones went 2-for-5 with a go-ahead two-run home run, helping Salem-Keizer grab Game 1 of a three-game series with the Boise Hawks, 9-5, at Volcanoes Stadium.
Jones clobbered a Ryan Williams offering in the third inning with two outs over the netting deep in right field for his first homer in a Volcanoes uniform, giving S-K a lead they would not relinquish.
Trailing 6-2 in the seventh, the Hawks rallied, cutting the gap in half on an opposite-field two-run homer by Mark Zagunis. An inning later, Boise loaded the bases against reliever E.J. Encinosa with no outs, but Cameron McVey worked around a wild pitch that scored a run, striking out three-straight batters to get out of the threat.
The Volcanoes added three insurance runs in the eighth, including an RBI single by Seth Harrison and an RBI double by Christian Arroyo to break the game open.
Game 2 of the series is tomorrow at 7:35 p.m. with Trevor Graham meeting Jose Reyes.
