Saints on Right Side of Walk-Off Win as Frost Hits 2-Run Homer in Ninth for 7-6 Victory

ST. PAUL, MN (June 24, 2013) - After so much heartache in two of their last three games, the St. Paul Saints returned the favor to another team. Down to their final strike on two separate occasions the Saints battled and got a walk-off two-run homer from Adam Frost in the bottom of the ninth to get a 7-6 win over the Lincoln Saltdogs on Monday night at Midway Stadium in front of 4,083.

With the Saints down 6-5 in the bottom of the ninth Dwight Childs lined out to second and Dan Kaczrowski lined out to first. That brought up Jordan Tripp. With the count 3-2 on Jordan he lined a single into center field to extend the game. Jordan finished the night 3-4 with a triple, homer, RBI and three runs scored. That brought up Frost, who has hit two walk-off homers in his career both in 2009 with the Winnipeg Goldeyes. With the count 2-2 Frost drilled one to left that tipped off the very top of the wall and went over for a dramatic 2-run homer, his third of the season. It snapped an 0-16 drought for Frost.

The Saltdogs had just taken the lead in the top of the ninth. Saints reliever Mikey Mehlich walked the bases loaded. With one out he walked Stephen Douglas and David Espinosa. After a double steal put runners at second and third, Mehlich intentionally walked Matt Forgatch. Tyler Goodro hit a broken bat grounder to short that Joey Becker fielded and threw to second for the force out, but the throw to first wasn't in time allowing a run to score. Espinosa tried to also score on the play, but first baseman Dan Kaczrowski's throw to the plate was in time to get him.

The Saints dug themselves an early 5-0 hole as the Saltdogs hit three homers against Saints starter Mark Hamburger. He gave up a leadoff solo homer to Daniel Carroll, his fifth, in the first inning and then later a two-run homer to Goodro, his first, to make it 3-0 after one.

With the Saints trailing 4-0 in the fourth Yasel Gomez hit his first homer of the season, a solo shot, to make it 5-0. It tied a season and career high for Hamburger with three homers allowed.

Hamburger settled down and wound up throwing 131 pitches, 89 for strikes, as he hurled 8.0 innings allowing five runs on 11 hits while walking one and striking out 11. The 11 strikeouts were a Saints season high and a career high for Hamburger. It was the most strikeouts by a Saints pitcher since Charlie Ruud struck out 11 on August 15, 2007 against the Sioux City Explorers.

The Saints mounted their comeback in the sixth when Jordan Tripp led off with a triple. Frost was hit by a pitch. He stole second and the throw went into center field allowing Jordan Tripp to score and sending Frost to third. Joey Becker walked and Brad Boyer's sacrifice fly made it 5-2. Willie Cabrera finished the scoring in the inning with a two-run homer, his third of the season, to make it 5-4.

In the seventh Jordan Tripp led off with a solo homer to left, his third of the season, tying the game at five.

The same two teams meet Tuesday night in game two of the three game series at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Wes Roemer (3-4, 6.81) to the mound against Saltdogs RHP Mike Burns (2-1, 4.58). The first 1,000 fans will receive a free Craigslist item. The game can be heard on Club 1220 AM and in the ballpark on 87.9 FM.
