Saints Extend Contract of Manager George Tsamis

ST. PAUL, MN (July 19, 2007) - Four seasons, four playoff appearances and one championship. That's the resume of Saints Manager George Tsamis during his tenure in St. Paul. Coming off of his managerial duties for the Northern Division at the American Association All-Star Game for the on Tuesday evening, Tsamis was rewarded with a contract extension through the 2009 season.

Entering the 2007, season Tsamis was 222-154 in four seasons. This season, he has guided the Saints to a 38-24 mark, finishing in third place in the first half. Tsamis is five wins shy of becoming the all-time leader in victories among Saints managers. Marty Scott collected 264 victories during his six seasons from 1995-2000.

"I've said from day one I'm very fortunate to be the manager of the St. Paul Saints," said Tsamis. "I would love to be here for a long, long time."

His original contract was signed in 2003 and was a five year deal. He has never had a winning percentage lower that .562 in his four seasons and recorded a franchise-record high 61 victories during 2004.

According to Saints' Chairman Marv Goldklang, "George is one of the top managers in all of independent professional baseball. He's a great game manager, an excellent recruiter of players and enjoys respect throughout the industry. We're fortunate to be able to announce this extension of our relationship."

Prior to joining the Saints, Tsamis guided the New Jersey Jackals, of the Northeast League, to back-to-back titles in 2001 and ‘02. He began his managerial career in 1999, spending two seasons with the Waterbury Spirits, while making the playoffs in 2000.

The 40 year-old Tsamis was drafted by Minnesota in the 15th round of the 1989 June amateur draft and pitched for the Twins in 1993.
