St. Paul Saints News Release

CLEBURNE, TX - Nate Hanson came up big once again and the St. Paul Saints got 6.1 solid innings from starter John Straka as they took down the Salina Stockade in game one of the doubleheader at The Depot at Cleburne Station.

In the first the Saints capitalized on the wildness by stockade starter Tim Blackmon. He walked three straight and unleashed a wild pitch scoring Brady Burzynski to give the Saints a 1-0 lead.

In the second Tony Caldwell led off with a single and Jon Kristoffersen reached on a bunt single to put runners at first and second. Tanner Vavra sacrificed the runners over and Danny Oh's sacrifice fly gave the Saints a 2-0 lead.

The Stockade nearly tied it in the fourth. With one out Jesse Baker singled to center and Jordan Calliouet doubled him home to make it 2-1. With two outs Jimmy Heck lined a shot back to the mound that Straka grabbed for out number three.

In the fourth the Saints loaded the bases with no outs, but after back-to-back strikeouts it looked like they would come up empty. That's when Hanson came through with a two-run single to make it 4-1 Saints.

The Saints tacked on two more insurance runs in the sixth when Oh doubled and pinch hitter Breland Almadova singled him home to make it 5-1. Hanson's RBI single made it 6-1. Hanson finished the game 2-4 with three RBI.

The insurance runs proved huge as the Stockade sent the tying run to the plate. Straka gave up a leadoff double to Caillouet. With one out Heck made it 6-2 with an RBI single. After a Kewby Meyer single put runners at the corners, Straka was removed for closer Seth Rosin. Roche Woodard's sacrifice fly got the Stockade within three and a single by Aaron Olivas brought the tying run to the plate. Rosin would get Logan Trowbridge to hit a comebacker to end the game.
