St. Paul Saints News Release

ST. PAUL, MN (June 13, 2007) - The St. Paul Saints were attempting to do what no other team in the American Association could do against the Lincoln Saltdogs and that was win a series from them. It was not to be as the Saints lost 7-2 on Wednesday night at Midway Stadium in front of 5,603.

The night started off on the right foot as Brent Krause extended his hitting streak to 16 games with a solo homer in the fourth inning, his third of the season, to make it 1-0.

The Saints had a chance to make it 2-0 in the fifth when Alex Fonseca doubled with one out and Ryan Priddy followed with a single to right, but Fonseca was thrown out at the plate.

The Saltdogs used that as a little momentum in the sixth scoring three runs off of Saints starter Adam Brandenburg. Aaron Mendoza led off with a double to left-center. He advanced to third on a wild pitch and with one out Tony Garcia knocked him home with a single to left. Pichi Balet doubled to put runners at second and third and Bryan Warner drove home a pair of runs with a single to left to make it 3-1 Saltdogs.

The Saints got to within on when Marcel Longmire hit a solo blast to left, his sixth of the season, to cut the lead to 3-2, but it was as close as the Saints would get.

Garcia came through in the seventh for the Saltdogs when, with two outs, Carlos Gallardo doubled and Garcia drove him home with a single to left.

The Saltdogs added three more runs in the ninth on an RBI single from Balet and a two-run homer from Warner, his third of the season.

The Saints get Thursday off and head to Sioux Falls Stadium to take on the Sioux Falls Canaries Friday night at 7:05 p.m. The Saints send RHP Charlie Ruud (3-2, 5.11) to the mound against Canaries LHP Micah Posey (1-4, 3.86). The game can be heard live on KBGY 107.5 FM.
