El Paso Diablos News Release

The El Paso Diablos out slugged the Sioux City Explorers 10-8 from Cohen Stadium on Wednesday night at Cohen Stadium.

The Sioux City Explorers jumped on the scoreboard in the top of the second inning. Pete Pirman plated a pair of runners with a two-out double to deep left giving Sioux City an early 2-0 advantage.

El Paso responded the very next inning. Juan Camacho led off the frame with a mammoth homerun to deep right field, his second in two nights cutting the lead to 2-1.

The Diablos erupted in the bottom of the fourth scoring for nine runs, the most they've plated in one inning all season. El Paso batted around four different players. Walter Olmstead and Albenis Machado each had RBI triples. Eight different Diablos reached base in the inning.

Sioux City kept pace as they scored three in the top of the fifth against Andy Torres. Julian Benavidez rocketed a double to deep-left plating the first two. Jorge Moreno then doubled scoring Benavidez and cutting the Diablos deficit to 10-5.

The Explorers continued their rally as they plated three more in the top of the sixth. The Explorers had four base hits in a row against Andy Torres to lead off the inning. Pete Pirman and Zach Goldberg were each responsible for RBI singles. Garvis Romero was summoned from the bullpen to record the inning's three outs, and he induced a double play and a fly out to put out the fire, but Sioux City cut the deficit to 10-8.

The Diablos held on with good relief pitching. Garvis Romero and Dustin Cameron followed Andy Torres with three innings of scoreless baseball.

Ned Darley came in for the ninth inning and retired the side 1-2-3 for his 9th save of the year.

Andy Torres (4-0) gets the win as he threw five innings allowing eight runs off of 10 hits with three walks and two strikeouts.

Alexander Francisco (3-3) tossed only three and a third innings allowing nine runs off of nine hits with two walks and two strikeouts.

The Diablos will close out their three game set with the Sioux City Explorers on Thursday night at 7:05 PM. The Diablos will send Mike Cervera against Rafael Gross. The game will be broadcast live at www.diablos.com
