Saints Add Size to Defense

San Angelo Saints News Release

SAN ANGELO – The San Angelo Saints today announced the signing of rookie defenseman Konrad Brand, who actually suited up for his first game as a Saint Saturday night in Odessa. At 6-3 and 225 lbs, Brand adds both size and grit to the Saints' defensive corps that has been short due to injuries and releases. He replaces Corbie Kent as No. 8 on the Saints roster. Kent was released last week.

Brand comes to the Saints from the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) where he played with current Saints Cory Pecush and Scott Reid. In 14 games with season with the Ooks, Brand recorded 4 goals, 1 assist and 14 penalty minutes. He has already been throwing his weight around – delivering several bone-jarring hits in his CHL debut Saturday night.

With Jamie Thompson, Jason Abel, Jeff Cheeseman and Jarett Metz all unavailable for this week's game due to injury – there may be some more player moves this week as the Saints try to get their roster back up to full strength. Ryan Reid is due to return from his suspension on Dec. 14th.

*****Also – Public Skating returns to the coliseum Dec. 14th. Skating after the game will be free if you have your own skates. You will also be able to rent skates from the coliseum if you don't have your own. The Saints are also sponsoring their annual "Teddy Toss" on Dec. 14th. If you bring a stuffed toy with you to buy your tickets for the Saturday's game (either in advance or at the door) you can get a $10 mid-zone ticket for $8. All the toys will be tossed on to the ice after the Saints' first goal of the night – and will then be donated to Toys for Tots. Also, check Friday and Saturday's Standard Times for chances to get a free Saints puck at the game.
