Ice Add an Ounce of Silver to the CHL Record Books
December 9, 2002 - Central Hockey League (CHL)
Indianapolis Ice News Release
Ice goaltender Shawn Silver etched his name in the CHL record books over the weekend by setting the new mark for consecutive scoreless minutes (222:01). Silver's perfect stretch shattered the old mark by Tulsa's Rod Branch which was 192:17. The old Ice IHL record was held by Jimmy Waite (155:07 in 1989-90) and the old CHL Ice record was held by his goaltending mate, Jamie Morris (135:20 in 2001-02). Before giving up two goals in Sunday's 3-0 loss at Memphis, Silver was unbeaten in regulation in his last ten games and had not lost since 11/2 at Fort Worth (4-2). Overall numbers during the ten-game span included an 8-0-2 record, 1.07 goals-against-average, two shutouts and a .962 save percentage. After going 2-1-0 with a 1.01 GAA and a .964 SVPCT in the three games this past week, Silver ranks second in the CHL in GAA (1.54) and SVPCT (.945).
WINS A PLENTY FOR ICE: Despite Sunday's 3-0 loss at Memphis, the Ice is 8-1-2 in its last 11 games and an even better 8-0-3 in its last 11 games on home ice. The team has only lost one game in regulation at home this year and that was a 4-3 loss to Memphis back on 10/19/02.
"PK" STREAK ENDS AT 36: Indy's penalty killing perfection finally came to an end Sunday night in Memphis, but not before the Ice killed off an impressive 36 consecutive opponents' power plays. Despite the minor setback, the Ice still boasts the league's premier penalty killing unit overall (82/89, 92.1%) and at home (49/51, 96.1%).
A WEEKEND AT BERNIE'S: Playing in all three games this past weekend, Ice defenseman Bernie John became the all-time leader for games played in a CHL Ice uniform (194), passing former Ice defenseman Dan Cousineau (192). As one mark was conquered, another milestone more than likely will be met sometime this week as the all-star defenseman needs just one point for 500 for his professional career. The ten-year pro has compiled 499 points (124G, 375A) in 559 career games.
ICEMEN ON THE RAMPAGE: Bernie John has ten points (2G, 8A) in his last nine games....Kevin St. Jacques has 13 points (6G, 7A) in his last 12 games...Randy Holmes has points in four of his last five games (3G, 2A)...Bryce Classen has seven points (3G, 4A) in his last eight games...Justin Kearns has three points (1G, 2A) in his last three games...Greg Olsen has two goals in his last three games.
TEAM NOTES: Indy has improved at home on the power play as the team is ranked fifth in the CHL (11-60, 18.3%), but has struggled immensely on the road as the team is 16th in the CHL (3-53, 5.7%)...The Ice is 0-1-1 against Bossier-Shreveport this year and 0-0-2 against Amarillo...The Ice plays New Mexico this week for only the second time in franchise history.
"WILD THING" COMING IN LATE DECEMBER: '80's rap pioneer, Tone-Loc, will be performing in a post-game concert following the Ice's 12/28 game against the Bossier-Shreveport Mudbugs at 7:00 p.m. from the Pepsi Coliseum. Tone-Loc's first album, Loc'd After Dark (1989), was the second rap album ever to reach #1 on Billboard's album charts (Beastie Boy's Licensed to Ill was the first). Hit songs include "Wild Thing" and "Funky Cold Medina" and the veteran rapper had an appearance in the movie, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective with Jim Carrey.
