Lubbock Cotton Kings News Release
FOR THE WEEK OF DEC 9 â DEC 15TH COTTON KINGS FACE FIRST SUSPENSION
The Central Hockey League issued their first suspension today involving a member of the Cotton Kings, as âKings forward and penalty minute leader Dave Ambler has been suspended for Tuesday night's contest in San Angelo. The suspension comes after Ambler collected his third fight instigation infraction this season Saturday night against Laredo. The fight instigation violation comes with an automatic 10-minute misconduct in a game. CHL rules state that if a player collects 3 game-misconducts under a specific infraction or three 10-minute misconducts for instigation penalties, an automatic one-game suspension is to be handed out. The Cotton Kings will not be allowed to supply an additional player in Ambler's absence and will only be permitted to dress a maximum of 17 skaters.
THE KINGDOM
The Cotton Kings have a home record of 7-2-0, which ties for second in the CHL's Southern Conference behind Laredo's 7-1-1 home record. Lubbock has allowed just 16 goals on home ice through nine games, which ranks them second overall in the CHL behind Austin's 13 allowed goals on home ice. FIRST ON THE BOARD
The Cotton Kings are the third lowest ranked team in the league when it comes to scoring first in contests. Of the 20 games played, the Cotton Kings have only been the first team to score in 9 of those, but they have taken advantage of the situation posting a record of 7-1-1 in the 9 games.
BROADCAST HOP
The Cotton Kings broadcast of their Saturday night contest against Memphis will be carried on two stations, but not at the same time. With Texas Tech basketball occupying four of the five Clear Channel Lubbock stations, the Cotton Kings broadcast will dance around the frequencies to make room for Tech. The âKings broadcast will be carried live on Sportsradio 1340, as the Lady Raiders basketball game will be carried on KFYO 790. At 8:35 pm, the âKings broadcast will switch over to KFYO 790 to make way for Texas Tech Red Raider basketball, but if the Lady Raiders broadcast is still airing, the Cotton Kings broadcast will be off the air until the Lady Raiders broadcast signs off. This change could affect the Cotton Kings television simulcast on Cox Communications Ch.9 and the live internet stream powered by Lubbock Internet.net. The Cotton Kings and Clear Channel Communications are trying the best they can to work through this and hope that everything will run smoothly. The Cotton kings will notify you if there are any changes.
âKING OF THE WEEK
Lubbock left-winger Paul Fioroni has been awarded as the Lubbock Cotton Kings Player of the Week for the week of December 2 â 8th. Fioroni led the Cotton Kings' offense during the week contributing all of his points in Lubbock's 5-4 shootout win Saturday night over Laredo. The Calgary, Alberta native collected the âKings first Gordie Howe Hat-trick of the season collecting a major (fight) penalty, an assist and a goal. He tallied a three point night overall to tie a career high with a goal and two assists (also tying a career best). His goal came as the 12th âKings shooter in the overtime shootout, which gave him his first career overtime game winning goal.
