Saginaw Spirit Fall to Plymouth Whalers

The Saginaw Spirit faced off against the Plymouth Whalers for a Monday afternoon game at Compuware Arena. This is the second meeting between the two teams, as Saginaw fell to Plymouth 3-2.

The first frame saw little in the way of goal production and after 20 minutes of play Saginaw led Plymouth 1-0. Vladislav Kodola turned in a backhanded goal in the first for the Spirit at 13:39, his fourth of the season, with assists coming from Mitchell Webb and Blake Clarke. Shots on goal for the first read Saginaw 12, Plymouth 5.

The second period was scoreless but wasn't lacking in action. Penalties were traded just neither team could capitalize. Saginaw still led Plymouth 1-0. Shots on goal for the second frame were in favor of the Whalers 11-8.

Saginaw's Artem Artemov stuffed the puck in for an unassisted goal, his 10th of the season, 1:04 into the third period to take the Spirit lead to 2-0. Plymouth responded quickly to tie it up at two with goals from Victor Crus Rydberg and Mathew Campagna respectively. Whalers' Crus Rydberg broke the tie with a goal at 6:52. The afternoon finished out with Plymouth taking the win over Saginaw 3-2. Final shots on goal favored Plymouth 36-30.

The Saginaw Spirit continue their road trip on Thursday, January 22nd with a game at North Bay Memorial Gardens against the North Bay Battalion with a puck drop time of 7 p.m. Saginaw will travel to Sudbury and Barrie before coming home on Thursday, January 29th where they will play host to the Plymouth Whalers with a game time of 7:11 p.m.
