
Saginaw Spirit Defeats Kitchener Rangers 2-1 in Shootout

The Saginaw Spirit defeated the Kitchener Rangers 2-1 during the St. Mary's of Michigan Pink Out Game on a shootout goal by Dylan Sadowy.
The Saginaw Spirit fought back and forth against the Kitchener Rangers throughout the first period of play. Both teams traded power play oppportunities before the Rangers found the back of the net at 7:54 of the period. Justin Bailey scored on a power play, putting the score 1-0 Rangers, with the help of Gustaf Franzen and Max Iafrate. Shots on goal after the first found both teams tied at 7.
The second period saw Saginaw still trailing Kitchener 1-0. Spirit's starting goaltender Jake Paterson kept the Rangers from finding the back of the net in the period, blocking 13 shots in the second. Saginaw finished the period with 13 shots on goal.
The Saginaw Spirit tied the game at one in the later part of the third period on a slap shot goal by Jimmy Lodge, sending the teams into overtime. Lodge's tying goal came at 18:37 of the third, with the help of Marcus Crawford and Dylan Sadowy. Shots on goal after the third favored Kitchener 27-25.
After 5 minutes of overtime the Saginaw Spirit and Kitchener Rangers headed to a shootout where Dylan Sadowy punched in a nice shot against Kitchener's starting goaltender Dawson Carty. Final shots on goal Kitchener 31, Saginaw 27.
The Saginaw Spirit will travel to the Sleeman Centre to face the Guelph Storm Sunday, October 19th. Puck is set to drop at 2 p.m. The Spirit will see 4 road games before they return to the Dow Event Center on Saturday, November 1st when they take on the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds on Military Appreciation Night.
