Belleville Bulls News Release

BELLEVILLE, ON - The Belleville Bulls return home to the Yardmen Arena Saturday night, following a 7-4 defeat at the hands of the Niagara IceDogs. On Thursday evening the Bulls became the first opponent to play in the brand new Meridian Centre in downtown St. Catharines. Using the sold out crowd to their advantage, the IceDogs jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on route to a 7-4 win. Looking ahead, the Bulls look to rebound with a busy weekend at home starting with the undefeated Sault Ste. Marie Grey Hounds.

It was a night of firsts for the Niagara IceDogs as they finally got the chance to play in front of their home fans on Thursday. Two Niagara skaters, Mikkel Aagaard and Brian Brosnan, found the back of the net for the first time this season, helping the IceDogs earn their first win of the year and first in the new arena.

Charlie Graham was put to work early when the IceDogs peppered the Toronto native with a number of quality chances. Aagaard and Brosnan were the only goal scorers for Niagara in the period before Jordan Subban cut the lead in half with a blast from the point. Shots were even at 14 a piece after the first 20 minutes. Niagara continued to apply the pressure in the middle frame as Anthony DiFruscia lit the lamp at 8:18. Aagaard then potted his second of the game to give the IceDogs a commanding 4-1 lead after two periods of play. The Bulls battled back in the third thanks to goals from Aaron Berisha, Subban and Michael Cramarossa but it wasn't enough as the IceDogs countered with three of their own from Knott, Cody Payne and Aaron Haydon. Graham made 44 saves in the loss, shots favoured Niagara 51-33.

On the other side of the ice, the red hot Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds visit the Yardmen for the only time this season. Beginning their first road trip of the year with a come from behind win over North Bay on Thursday night, the Greyhounds remain the only unbeaten team in the OHL thus far.

1995-born centre Gabe Guertler, who has racked up 4 goals and 5 assists to begin the season, tipped home the game winner with just under 4 minutes left in regulation and the Greyhounds snuck away with a 5-4 victory over the Battalion. Other goal scorers for the Soo were over-ager Jean Dupuy, Nepean, Ontario native Zachary Senyshyn, winger Bryan Moore and veteran Jared McCann. The Greyhounds, who are ranked 2nd on the BMO CHL Top 10 list, will look for their 9th straight win.

It's Starboard Communications night at the Yardmen Arena and some great prizes are up for grabs! Game time is 7:05 in what's sure to be a physical game between two highly ranked teams.

Tickets are still available! Don't forget about our Fall Special, bring in or purchase a ticket for Saturday's game and receive Sunday's ticket for just $10!
