Saginaw Spirit News Release
The Saginaw Spirit made the trip to Niagara on Saturday night to play the IceDogs at the Gatorade Garden City Complex.
The IceDogs took advantage of a power play to score the first goal of the game. Assistant Captain Steven Shipley jumped on a rebounded puck to score assisted by Luke Mercer and Tyler Mort. Saginaw responded when their most dangerous line took control. Jimmy Lodge, Eric Locke, and Garret Ross scored the next three consecutive Spirit goals, assists on those goals from Locke, Lodge, and Dalton Young. Shortly after Saginaw took the 3-1 lead, Niagara fired back capitalizing once more on a power play. IceDog center Carter Verhaege found the back of the net with assists from Steven Shipley and Anthony DiFruscia. Seconds later, Niagara tied the score at three to close the period when Trevor Petersen netted the puck assisted by Ben Hughes and Tyler Mort.
After a fast and furious first period, the second period continued similarly. Brandon Lindberg made flawless hockey look simple with an early goal to take the lead off assists from Steven Strong and Jake Ringuette. Anthony DiFruscia then converted a goal for the IceDogs, this time while working with a two man advantage. His goal was assisted by Steven Shipley and Carter Verhaege. To match the first period, the second period concluded with a tied score at four.
The final goal of the night to ultimately take the victory came early from the Saginaw offense. Spirit winger Dylan Sadowy buried a beautiful goal with an impressive assist from Dalton Young. This goal regained the lead for Saginaw and gave them a 5-4 road game victory against the IceDogs.
