
Plymouth Whalers Move into First Place in 6-2 Win over Sarnia

PLYMOUTH - Mitchell Heard and Vincent Trocheck scored two goals and an assist each as the Plymouth Whalers defeated the Sarnia Sting, 6-2, in an Ontario Hockey League game played at Compuware Arena on Saturday night before 2,907.
The victory moves Plymouth into sole possession of first place in the OHL with a record of 25-14-5-4, good for 59 points and two points ahead of Sarnia (27-18-0-3, 57 points). Sault Ste. Marie (26-19-2-2, 56 points) is third in the OHL West.
Heard - with his fourth and fifth goals of the season - was the game's first star. Trocheck (28-29) was the game's second star. Garrett Meurs (23) and Connor Carrick (10) scored the other Plymouth goals.
Taki Pantziris (2) and Craig Duininck (6) replied for Sarnia.
Pantziris gave Sarnia an early lead at 4:54 of the first period, but the Whalers pulled away, getting goals from heard at 12:23, Trocheck at 13:58 and Carrick at 16:37. Plymouth effectively put the game away in the second period, outscoring Sarnia 3-1 in the period to lead 6-2 after forty minute on goals by Meurs (0:17), Heard (7:47) and Trocheck (8:49).
The Whalers outworked Sarnia most of the game, outshooting the Sting, 40-25.
Plymouth remains home next weekend, hosting Sault Ste. Marie on Friday at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena and Peterborough on Saturday at 7:05 pm at Compuware Arena.
