Oshawa Generals News Release
Oshawa, Ontario - The Oshawa Generals were defeated in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday by the score of 6-4 at the Essar Centre. The crowd of 4,534 was treated to a high scoring affair that saw both teams combine for 10 goals. Daniel Altshuller started the night in net, but couldn't hold off a high scoring Greyhounds team. Tyler Biggs was a bright spot for the Generals, scoring his 18th and 19th of the season.
A fast paced first period saw neither team get a shot until the 4:45 mark when the Greyhounds opened the scoring. On the first shot of the game, a Michael Schumacher shot found its way past a surprised Daniel Altshuller to open the scoring, giving the Greyhounds a 1-0 lead. The Generals weren't to be outdone as their top line went to work. Some nifty passing on the rush was finished off by Tyler Biggs as he ripped a wrist shot from the top of the right wing circle, beating Matt Murray glove side, and knotting the game at one apiece. Neither team could improve the score in the period, but the Soo went into the break leading 11-6 in shots.
The second period was a back and forth affair, as the Soo struck for two, while Boone Jenner scored his 33rd of the season, briefly tying the game 2-2. Brandon Alderson started the second period off with a bang, scoring six minutes in. The goal would be his first of three in the game. The Soo would take the lead again in the last few minutes of the period on Schumacher's second of the game.
Midway through the third period, and the score 5-2 after Alderson's second of the game, Tyler Biggs and Bradley Latour each scored a minute apart to get the Generals back in the game with the score 5-4.
The momentum wasn't enough however, as Alderson iced the game with his hat-trick goal and the Greyhounds' sixth goal of the game.
The Greyhounds outshot Oshawa 35-27.
Tyler Biggs was the third star of the game.
The Generals finish their road swing when they travel to the Hershey Centre on February 1st to take on the Mississauga Steelheads for the fourth and final time this regular season. The Generals then return to the General Motors Centre on February 3rd as they host the Belleville Bulls. Puck drop is at 2:05pm.
