Saginaw, Mich. - Nicholas Caamano scored two goals for the Firebirds as Flint fell to Saginaw 8-5 at the Dow Event Center on Wednesday night. With the win, Saginaw has evened the I-75 Divide Cup series, 3-3.
Saginaw started the scoring off when Matthew Kreis found the back of the net from the right circle 4:03 into the game.
Flint's Francesco Vilardi tied the game 18 seconds later on a goal from the left circle, farside past Evan Cormier's glove. Sills and Henderson picked up assists on the goal.
Devon Paliani regained the lead for the Spirit converting from the bottom of the left circle under Brent Moran's far pad at 6:19. Saginaw's Dylan Sadowy scored the next three goals to increase the Spirit's lead by four. In goal, Brent Moran was relieved by Brendan Johnston after the first period.
At 11:33 of the middle frame, Connor Chatham fired the puck on net from the left wall resulting in a rebound goal for a crashing Caamano.
Saginaw would score the next two goals before Caamano notched his second of the night and 11th of the season with 1:53 remaining in the second period on a backdoor pass from Alex Peters.
After Bennett tallied a shorthanded goal for Saginaw at 13:32, Ryan Moore dished the puck to a streaking Will Bitten who pulled the puck to his backhand before finding twine under Cormier's blocker for his 17th goal of the season and the final tally of the evening.
Flint and Saginaw will battle again in the Coors Light I-75 Divide Cup on Wednesday, Feb. 3. Puck drop is set for 7:05 p.m. (EST) at the Dow Event Center in Saginaw, Mich.
